Pop up Art School Program FAQs

Pop up Art School is a mobile and virtual art lesson business designed to take the stress out of planning creative programs. We’re known for being punctual and professional. Patrons love our engaging hands-on art programs and often ask for a return visit!

Our goal is to help make your event a success by drawing the largest crowd possible. Below, you'll find answers to common questions and tips to help you maximize registration and attendance.

Ways you can increase registration:

  • You are welcome to invite anyone that is older than the suggested age range.

  • Leave the registration open until the moment the program begins. We will bring enough materials for 15 people – no matter what.

  • Patrons who are late may be able to start the lesson after it begins. Please read the response below and ask the teacher if it's okay.

A common query is if the library can invite someone outside of the suggested age range.

When we create a program, we set the recommended age based on the likelihood of success given someone's age. With needle felting, there is also a safety factor. Flat needle felting is safer as you are only poking in a downward motion into the felting block. With 3D or sculptural needle felting, you are moving the piece and poking in multiple directions, therefore you are more likely to poke yourself. With every age group, we go over how to safely handle the needle and we provide finger protectors.

If you have a question about the appropriateness of a project for someone younger than the suggested age range please send us an email explaining the situation. Keep reading for specific information about each age group:

If the class is for ages 8+ can we invite younger children?

In most cases, a couple kids that are seven years old is okay (except for needle felting). Sometimes parents will request that a very young child such as five years old attend with a sibling. If someone is six years old or younger we request that the caregiver stay in the room during the program. This ensures that the younger child, who may have a shorter attention span, doesn't lose interest and uses the materials safely.

If the class is for ages 8+ can the caregiver stay and make the project?

Yes, if the registration is not full we are happy to accommodate caregivers.

For a program that is 8+/11+/13+ can I invite teens and adults?

Yes! We love teaching intergenerational programs. You do not need to notify us ahead of time if someone older than the suggested age group is attending a program. If your registration numbers are low this is a great way to increase the number of participants.

For a 13+ needle felting program, is it okay if an 11-year-old attends?

A 13+ needle felting program is one in which students are making a three-dimensional form, so there is a greater likelihood that they will poke themselves with the needle. If there are one to three 11 or 12 year-olds that shouldn't be a problem, but if we have an entire program filled with younger teens, they may be more distracted and more likely to poke themselves.

If I booked a program for adults can I invite teens?

If your registration numbers are low, inviting teens is a great way to increase the number of participants. Please refer to the program listing to see the suggested age range. If it's not on the listing please inquire via email.

If someone will be 45 minutes late can they still do the project?

Please ask your teacher if they are comfortable taking someone halfway through. Watercolor painting is very dependent on timing, so having someone enter the classroom halfway through the lesson may be an issue depending on the project.

Can I or someone from our staff attend the program?

Absolutely! Making a project with your patrons helps you to connect with them through a shared experience.
