Siebert has been making art since she was a young child. When asked if anyone influenced her to become an artist she said, "I won a ribbon for a painting I did in a local art fair when I was around 6. My Mom saw that this was what I loved to do, so she enrolled me in art lessons when I was 7.

She continued to study art throughout high school. She went on to earn a degree in graphic design from the University of Cincinnati. She opened her own design firm, 3 years after she graduated from college, in 1987. Her firm, Olika Studios, has developed branding and design programs for influential clients such as Target, Bath & Body Works, Nickelodeon and Universal Studios.

In addition, to her graphic design firm she licenses her images to manufacturers in the gift and home decor industry. These items are sold in retail stores.

Siebert is very active on Instagram and inspires others to make art every day by hosting monthly creativity challenges. A creativity challenge lasts for a set amount of time (two weeks, a month, etc.). For each day of the challenge there is a prompt based on a theme.

Anyone can participate (even kids!). People use creativity challenges as a way to help them grow their creative practice. They're helpful when artists feel uninspired. The artist may be feeling stuck for unsure about what to draw, paint or sculpt. The prompt is used to help get the creative juices flowing.

Here's a list of some of the prompts from her challenges:

  • Night owl & nesting bird from Feathered Friends

  • Rose colored glasses & secret garden from Flower Power

  • Here Comes The Sun & You've Got A Friend In Me from Happy Lyrics

  • Pomegranate + Kelly green & chocolate + powder blue from Color Combos

When people participate in a creativity challenge they can keep their art private or they can post on social media using a hashtag associated with the challenge. Try it sometime: if you're not sure what to draw or paint look at one of the prompts above for inspiration.

When we asked Siebert if we could feature her on our website and in Art Club, her response was, "I LOVE kids and fostering their creativity!!!” You can learn more about artists like Siebert and get weekly prerecorded and live Zoom lessons inspired by the work of contemporary artist in our virtual Art Club.

Pop up Art School’s mission is to introduce children to living, breathing artists. We believe it's important for kids to see that art is being made in the here and now.

Siebert is one of the artists that we are featuring in our virtual Art Club for kids. Every four weeks we spotlight a new contemporary artist and families receive three pre-recorded lessons and one lesson taught live via Zoom.
